ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE WORKPLACE: LABOR RIGHTS IN THE AGE OF AUTOMATION
Abstract
The article analyzes how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the world of work, raising new challenges and opportunities for labor rights. It highlights that AI not only optimizes processes and increases productivity but also introduces significant risks of surveillance, bias, and reductions in workers’ autonomy. Demonstrating the need for comprehensive protection of human rights in the workplace in the face of automation and the use of artificial intelligence—while promoting decent working conditions through ethical governance—constitutes the aim of this article. This is achieved through the analysis-synthesis method with a proactive approach that combines technological innovation with robust labor rights to ensure an equitable, safe, and dignified work environment in the age of automation. The article concludes that addressing these processes requires overcoming linear and sectoral perspectives by integrating the complexity approach, which makes it possible to understand global interdependencies, the emergence of new scenarios, and the need for adaptive regulatory frameworks that acknowledge uncertainty and the plurality of contemporary working life.
