A mountain, a river, and a lighthouse. A tribute of gratitude to Edgar Morin
Abstract
From an autobiographical and reflective perspective, the author examines the decisive role that Edgar Morin has played as both an intellectual and existential reference throughout his personal and academic journey. Through the mediation of Alfredo Gutiérrez Gómez, he recounts how Morin's work transformed his ways of thinking, conducting research, and understanding anthroposocial reality, leading him toward a complex epistemology, an inter- and transdisciplinary articulation of knowledge, and an evolutionary understanding of life and society. The article highlights the breadth of Morin's thought, his interpretation of the contemporary world, his proposal for a politics of civilization, and his ethics of self-criticism. It concludes by acknowledging Morin's profound influence as a "mountain, river, and lighthouse" that continues to guide both existence and action in times of uncertainty.
