A meaningful moment with Edgar: A companion in thought and a friend at heart
Abstract
The author recounts an intimate and meaningful moment shared with Edgar Morin in Montpellier, where a lighthearted yet affectionate conversation reveals the profound
humanity of the thinker. The narrative highlights Morin's capacity for presence, his attentiveness to others, and religance as a way of inhabiting the world—creating
connections among forms of knowledge, disciplines, and people. The article retraces the intellectual and personal relationship that developed over the years, as well as Morin's
decisive influence on the creation and orientation of the UNESCO Chair on Complexity. It also presents the Oasis of Fraternity project as a practical embodiment of Morinian
thought, dedicated to rebuilding human bonds and resisting contemporary forms of dehumanization. The article concludes by affirming that the truest tribute to Morin lies in continuing the demanding task of thinking and acting through the lens of complexity.
