Contemplation as a Pedagogical Strategy of the Aesthetic of Graphic Design and visual Subjects
Abstract
This research article presents a case study proposal based on the contemplation of a specific context, assigned a group of students in the aesthetics course, which is part of the third-year curriculum of the Graphic Design and Visual Communication degree. The objective is to build knowledge from an experience and explain a phenomenon related to the knowledge of graphic aesthetics.
The adopted methodology follows an exploratory approach, supported by observation and analysis of the student’s relationship with their object of study. The students used collective aesthetic as an analytical framework to examine the object of study and contemplation as a method of introspection.
The conclusions are draw from observation and interaction in discussions with the students, who defend their positions and delimit the analysis of the object of study into strategic interventions, such as the modulation of typography and the optimization of visual hierarchy, as possible improvements for the aesthetics of informal commerce. The results of their analysis reveal the potential of contemplating design elements for pedagogical purposes.
This article offers a detailed view of how contemplating an object of study can foster greater reflection on one’s own thoughts, intertwining received knowledge with experience, contributing knowledge in their field, and proposing improvements to a design-related problem.
